The ONLY way to eat Mont d’Or is heated in the oven until the cheese becomes runny (usually no more than 15 mins). This of course makes a superb starter and talking point. Here’s a great recipe! What’s it taste like? This is the French and unpasteurised version of Vacherin Mont d’Or which is made just over the border in Switzerland. It is indescribably creamy and gorgeous with the unmistakable aroma of alpine milk. Where’s it from? This AOC Mont D’Or is affineured and distributed by Charles Hennart. Mont d’Or comes in an attractive wooden box (500g). Item DescriptionWe salute le colonel – five strips of sedge leaves which are wrapped round the Livarot to stop it bulging give this lovely cheese its military nickname. It glossy reddy-brown washed rind looks fantastically rustic. What’s it taste like? Livarot is washed in brine and coloured with annato to make an exuisite pungent soft cheese, rather like a Pont L’Eveque but with more aroma and flavour. Where’s it from?
